All About Me

Yes, my name is really SaraJoy—and likely to remain so. If someday I replace the Pond, I sincerely hope for something to continue the motif of pleasant, rounded counters.

I did all the growing up I ever care to do in a small town in Northern Colorado. In a fit of insanity, or inspiration [the verdict is still out] I relocated to Salt Lake City 18 months ago—the scenery is fantastic, the weather is brilliant, but the billboards proclaiming "happiness = chastity" still throw me.

Once settled in "lovely Deseret," I spent 6 months in the design department of a publishing house and 6 as the creative director of a film distribution company before I traded in the key to my corner office for a four-foot strip of dining room and the freedom [read: fluctuation] of the freelance life. Not to worry, I nabbed the Power G5 [with its 2G of RAM], the 23" Cinema HD display, the portable hard drive and the color laser on my way out.

I am a [mostly] print designer. Somehow, here, that feels like a confession. I design because the touch of an 80# 100% cotton sheet sends chills down my spine. Because great design is discovery and I always wanted to be an archaeologist...an astronaut. Because it means I can write in fragments and wear fish scales as a necklace and people will call it "artistic."

I am intensely fond of typography, branding, and Ben & Jerry’s Half-Baked ice cream. I detest bad line-breaks, bean soup, and writing "about" blurbs for blogs.
