Getting on the Bus

Getting on the Bus

I've often wondered how I would have reacted had I been alive during the Civil Rights Movement. Sometimes, I'm sure I would I have hopped on a bus to Alabama. Other times I wonder if I would have had the courage to argue over Thanksgiving Dinner.

I will never know what I would have done then.

But I can choose what I do now.

I am an American. I am a Christian--a Mormon, to be precise. I believe in work. I believe in accountability. I believe in the power of standing for what is right.

So I'm standing here saying This. Is. Wrong.

It is not courageous, unpopular truth-telling. It is not a minor incident being exploited by a histrionic liberal media. It is bigotry. It is ignorant, and it is cruel.

We are better than this. As Americans, as Christians, as human beings. And if we aren't, then we ought to be.

This is me getting on the bus.
